Introducing Critical Policy Discourse Analysis

A few years ago, Jane Mulderrig, Nicolina Montesano Montessori and me edited a book which brought together some excellent work on what was then a new field: critical policy discourse analysis.

I'm delighted that the chapter we wrote as an introduction is now available as full access on the publisher's website (link below). In the chapter, we describe the development of CPDA and it's emergence from the combination of critical discourse analysis and critical policy studies, giving what we described as:

an analytical framework capable

an analytical framework capable of capturing, and conceptualising in relation to their socially structuring potential, the fine details of text which are often overlooked in policy analysis, but which have effects on how policy is understood, developed, and implemented.

I'm pleased with the interest people have had in this approach - I just looked on ResearchGate and this chapter has higher 'research interest' than 99% of work on that site both in the fields of Discourse Analysis and Public Policy - especially for the work of the contributors: Tom Bartlett; Daniela Caterina; Sarah Horrod; Juan Francisco Palma Carvajal; Mikko Poutanen; Maria Rieder; Kristof Savski; and Hendrik Theine.

If you work on discourse and policy, do have a look at the book!
